Education - a never-ending quest!

The minute you are born, the quest for knowledge begins, and it never ends. For centuries, knowledge has been of utmost importance in molding the human mind. Educating oneself to gain worldly knowledge has been the most critical tool, and it still is. With passing time, education techniques have evolved, and so have educational institutions. Finally, technology has taken over and has changed the way we learn professionally, in school, or at any academic institute.

What is EdTech?

EdTech is a portmanteau of “education technology," which is a blend of technology and educational practices. The main aim of EdTech is to empower the students with a more engaging, inclusive, and individualized learning experience.

The influx of EdTech tools powered by software and hardware designed in cohort is to create an EdTech ecosystem where modern ways of learning and teaching can thrive.
The revolutionized approach to education with technology has been manifested by creating learning strategies focused on providing real-life scenarios, fostering experiential learning, and staying relevant to learners’ needs, roles, and responsibilities. The new digital and interactive content has undoubtedly played a big part in this modern-day EdTech culture. It allows flexibility to have customized industry-aligned course structures and cover multiple avenues that eventually widen the students’ horizons by preparing them for their preferred careers.

Are there different types of Ed Tech?

In ‘Hybrid/Blended Learning,’ Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming the of classrooms from conventional textbooks and notebooks mode of learning into using advanced devices for a more interactive learning experience. And ‘Distributed Learning,’ is entirely online distance learning options that certainly give a new spin to the traditional classroom environment as it brings the classroom to you instead of the other way around. It is freeing for the students as they don’t have to depend on classrooms and textbooks anymore. If they want to learn and gain knowledge, they can do it right in the comfort of their own homes in any corner of the world. The primary types of EdTech learning are:

  • Synchronous and Asynchronous - It is a very versatile learning model that can be in-class or outside of the classroom. It can be instructor-led synchronous learning for a guided approach, and it can also be a self-paced asynchronous approach for more flexible and comfortable learning.

Synchronous learning is a collective mode such as face-to-face discussion, online real-time teacher instruction and feedback, Skype conversations, chat rooms, or virtual classrooms

Asynchronous learning, on the other hand, can be through email, blogs, wikis, discussion boards, web-supported textbooks, hypertext documents, audio, video courses, and social networking using the web

  • Collaborative Learning - CSCL, i.e., Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning, encourages students to brainstorm together and learn from each other. It is similar to “e-leaning 2.0” and “networked collaborative learning”(NCL). It is considered a nurturing base for creative and engaging learning.

Each type, with its various modifications and combinations, offers options that can be customized to fit any educational program of any educational institution; it begs to say that the possibilities are truly extensive.

Is EdTech here to stay?

The combination of educational theory and technological innovation has proven to be the need of the hour. Educational technology was on the rise for quite some time now, with an average of up to 34.7 percent in fall 2018 from 33.1 percent in 2017 where enrolled college students took at least one online class, according to Inside Higher Ed
But since the 2020 pandemic, where social distancing had bound us to our homes, EdTech gave students worldwide a chance to continue their education online and not let their valuable academic years be hampered. Given the current scenario and the vast horizon that EdTech has provided to the educational society, the need for technology in education has never been more pronounced.

How is EdTech benefiting the educational society?

Today’s classrooms have adapted to this evolving technological trend, and they have not just embraced but also improvised on the same for consistently progressive and innovative educational experiences and opportunities. From modern technical gadgets to interactive online courses and even having AI-operated bots to assist the kids by taking notes, recording lectures, and whatnot, the possibilities of enhanced facilities in education are endless.
Further, personalized learning brings it to the next level. The EdTech tools allow you to design the curriculum and plan the classes to a highly personalized level. Every student has their own grasping speed and way of learning, which can be taken care of in the modern EdTech world, unlike the old times where the kids had to attend clunky classes and study the same material, leading to a lack of interest and excitement.

Should you jump on the EdTech wagon?

We say why not? If you are a visionary and looking for a viable opportunity, exploring the EdTech industry is a no-brainer. If you ask us, we believe that it shows all the signs of the type of future that we want to be headed towards, and our children will most certainly agree with the fun of learning in a virtual world, away from books but effectively nonetheless.

We are anyways all about technology and enjoy the complexities of the innovative future. From instructional designs, digital content creation, tutoring support, textbook solutions to all the technical nitty-gritty details that eventually bring a completely integrated EdTech platform that flawlessly provides the digital infrastructure worth of your educational content.
