Job Summary:

The Managing Editor is responsible for the successful delivery of projects for a particular product line, from contract signing until delivery of the final product. This includes managing costs, schedules, and fiscal output budgets; keeping stakeholders informed of any variance; maintaining high-level contact with the author/editor throughout the project life cycle; and ensuring the quality of the delivery.

Roles and Responsibilities: 

• Understand and consider schedule adjustments due to delays/issues (rare) while working with the Creative Services team

 • Coordinate with the Permissions team as needed and address permissions queries

 • Monitor, adjust, and maintain Work front schedule (end-to-end) and approved budgets to ensure titles stay on track, and determine corrective actions needed from them when issues arise (and escalate/address with appropriate parties as needed) – needs to be proactive in monitoring, questioning and following up

 • Includes negotiation skills with multiple parties to ensure all efforts are taken to keep projects on track despite unforeseen circumstances

 • Handle project-specific questions and escalations coming from Editor/author/vendor resources with appropriate parties

 • Ensure all project tasks are complete and mark the project finally closed in WF

 • Support author is the use of any tools/questions they may have (e.g. Latex, OPS, Future Authoring Tool? etc.)

 • Setting up new MRWs if/when they arise

 • Annual forecasting processes – Front list title delivery and Last Agreed Delivery Date (LADD) for Manuscript Handover to Production

Desired Candidate: 

• Associate’s degree or higher, with preferred strong writing and self-review skills.
• Excellent customer service skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and to understand, query, and implement feedback.
• Experience – 1 to 5 Years
